5 common anti-wrinkle questions answered

What is the difference between Botox® and filler?

Botox® works by blocking the nerve signal to the particular treated muscle, therefore stopping the muscle from contracting and causing lines and wrinkles. Small doses are injected to the treatment areas and the muscle then becomes relaxed and the skin becomes softer. When used over time, the muscles in the treatment area shrinks and the wrinkles and fine lines are reduced – this is why Botox® is a preventative treatment. Fillers or dermal fillers are used to add volume and smooth out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Does it hurt?

Like most things, the experience varies from person to person. Many think of it as a small pin prick or scratch. The needle used is tiny and the procedure is quick.

Will my face look unnatural?

Although in the media there are stories and images of individuals with frozen faces, the reality is most people who have had Botox® look completely natural and there are only subtle differences. It’s best to consult with your registered nurse or doctor what you’re hoping to achieve. With Botox® you see the result 3 to 4 days following treatment whereas with filler you see immediate results.

Is it expensive?

At OFF & ON, the more units you buy, the lesser the overall unit price. OFF & ON also have the convenience of buying a Botox® bundle which lessens the price further. It’s not as costly as one may think. For example, at OFF & ON, forehead lines may use 8 to 12 units. Each unit costs around $17.50 which means a total cost between $140 to $210.

Does it actually prevent wrinkles?

With Botox® weakening the muscles, it prevents muscles from moving and therefore causing wrinkles. It limits movement and over time it slows the development of lines when formed by making expressions. It does not stop the development of wrinkles, but it does slow down the process.
